Furude Riku (古手 陸) is one of Rika's ancestors who is the heir to and the Shinto Priest of the Furude House. He is the husband of the adult appearing Furude Hanyū and the father of Furude Oka.

Story[]

Riku is first seen being chased by a bear and shouting for help. Hai-Ryūn Ieasomūru Jeda, a demon who had recently arrived in Hinamizawa, saves him. Riku thanks her for saving him, but he is embarrassed since Hai-Ryūn is naked and she throws him into the water. He takes Hai-Ryūn to the shrine. Many villagers fear Hai-Ryūn due to her horns; however Riku ignores them. The two later fall in love, marry, and have a daughter: Furude Ōka. After a few years, Riku was possessed by a demon who bore rivalry towards Hanyū and wanted to kill her, and due to circumstances described in the arc, Hanyū has to kill Riku, though he allows himself to be sacrificed. Since he has a hard time trying to remember and pronounce Hai-Ryūn Leasomūru Jeda, Riku gives her the nickname "Hanyū." She chooses to retain it centuries later when she appears close to Rika's age.

Personality[]

Riku has a polite yet bold and playful personality. He never feared Hanyū's horns nor background, and it is later revealed that he was the infant that Hanyū had rescued 20 years prior in a burning room.

Trivia[]

  • He possesses a fondness of the priestess robes comparable to Irie Kyōsuke's maid fetish.
  • "A Girl has a Nickname!": He gives Hai-Ryun her nickname Hanyū, which she retains centuries later. It is the name Rika uses to talk and refer to her in all of the major Question and Answer Arcs, Nipaa?
  • A Pear Blossom, by Any Other Name: His name appears similar to Rika's with just an apparent difference in the first syllable; however, the name consists of only one kanji (陸) and means "land." Rika's name consists of two kanji (梨花) and means "pear blossom."
