Kotohogushi-hen (言祝し編, Congratulating Chapter) is the original chapter that appeared in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna: Dai Yon Kan "Kizuna". This chapter explores Hanyū's past as Hai-Ryūn Ieasomūru Jeda and the origin of Onigafuchi Swamp and Hinamizawa.
This chapter is similar to Hanyū's past mentioned in Saikoroshi-hen and Miotsukushi-hen, but Kotohogushi-hen is much more detailed, especially the appearance of Furude Riku, Hai-ryūn's lover and father of their child, Furude Ōka. More characters introduced, such as Ryūn-Ōku, Hai-ryūn's trustworthy clan member; Kimiyoshi Shino, head of the Kimiyoshi clan; and Sonozaki Mao, head of the Sonozaki clan.
