Sonozaki Tamaki (園崎 魄姫) is the daughter of Sonozaki Mion and one of the main characters of chapters of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei.

Character Summary[]

In both chapters, Tamaki is the daughter and heir to Mion. She appears obsessed with meeting a boy to marry so she may have children to carry on the Sonozaki line. With the Hinamizawa Branch School having closed, she and the rest attend a high school in Okinomiya. They have their version of The Club, and while Keitarō appears to take charge, particularly in trying to recruit new members, Tamaki tends to win enough so that Keitarō wears the maid and cat costumes.

The Solemn Duty to serve at Angel Mort appears to have fallen upon her.

Appearance[]

Tamaki shares the "mint green" hair of the Sonozaki women. Similar to her mother and aunt when they were her age, she parts her bangs in the middle and ties her hair into a ponytail. Interestingly, she ties her hair with a similar yellow ribbon in a bow as her aunt would. In her one depiction thus far, Shion no longer ties her hair in a ponytail. Tamaki also dresses similar to Shion's standard clothes: white turtleneck with an outer necklace when she is not in her school uniform. The color covers and other work reveal that she also has the Sonozaki turquoise eyes.

Personality[]

Tamaki does appear a combination of Mion and Shion. Like her mother, she can be very serious when it comes to matters of her family, particularly when helping her mother stand in for Akane at village meetings. Like Shion she is seems very open and playful. She dresses more like her aunt than her mother. Her main interest appears to be finding a boyfriend, marrying, and having the next heir to the Sonozaki. This is often a comic point with Sakiko teasing her with "suggestions" to rather comic, and in the case of the Future of the Maebara Clan, painful results. Knowing the details of various conflicts between the village and Polaris as well as the economic situation, she proves wary of the cult but supports Keitarō when he tries to make contact.

Relationships[]

Maebara Keitarō[]

Keitarō is a friend to her much like his father was and is to her mother. She waits for him at the water wheel where Mion would wait for Keiichi and Rena. In both chapters she is introduced by grabbing Keitarō's genitals because Sakiko told her that is the way to reach a man's heart. While she seems interested in Keitarō as a possible mate, she also seems interested in any potential husband. Keitarō chides her not to worry, since she already is "popular" amongst the boys.

Ryūgū Kihiro[]

Obviously Kihiro takes a similar role as his mother did with Tamaki's mother; however, unless When They Cry Wiki missed it, he shows no romantic interest in Keitarō as his mother did for Keiichi. Tamaki is well aware of his ability to detect and react, sometimes violently, to lies.

Kimiyoshi Sakiko[]

Sakiko is proudly older than Tamaki and the rest. While she does not make traps like her mother did, she does play pranks. The first seen is her telling Tamaki if she wishes to reach a man's heart, she needs to grab his genitals. She gives euphemistically graphic anatomical directions which suggest that Tamaki has some ignorance regarding the geographic topology of the region, so to write. Sakiko will rope her in to take part in promotional videos and pictures for her mother's store, but Tamaki appears to enjoy it.

Sonozaki Mion[]

She is Tamaki's mother. Thus far, her father has not been depicted. Tamaki assists her mother who is the heir-apparent to her grandmother. Mion has not, thus far, teased her daughter to find a boyfriend as Akane did to her and her sister when she met Keiichi.

Sonozaki Akane[]

She helps her mother care for her grandmother who is the current head of the family. Apparently, though not explained, Sonozaki Oryō relented on her disinheritance and let her daughter, Akane, succeed her. She is both old and infirmed which limits her ability to attend to village meetings and other matters, and this absence concerns other villagers.

Sonozaki Shion[]

She is Tamaki's aunt. Thus far there is little direct interaction, but Tamaki and her friends see her and her husband Hōjō Satoshi with Rena at the Watangashi Festival. As noted, Shion wears her hair shorter and not in a ponytail.

Ryūgū Rena[]

While they thus far do not have a lot of direct interactions, she meets Rena at Watanagashi. In reminisces from Keitarō, as children they often gathered together with their parents.

Hōjō Satoko[]

Satoko is the adult who has the most interaction with the children as owner of her store. She often employs Tamaki and the others to help out and, for her daughter and Tamaki in particular, serve as models for promotional material and even as hostesses. Thus far, she has not been depicted laying a trap. When They Cry Wiki is disappoint.

Etymology[]

  • A Girl has a Demon Name!: Like her mother and aunt, Tamaki has oni (鬼) as an element of one of the kanji for her name. 魄 (tama) means "soul, spirit," while 姫 (ki) means "princess."

Trivia[]

  • "Be Fruitful and Multiply!": Thus far, unless When They Cry Wiki missed it, the exact ages of any of "The Kids" are unknown other than Sakiko is the oldest. She may only be a few months older since they all appear to be in the same middle school class. This means that Keiichi, Mion, and Rena all had their one child in the same year. Given that Satokowashi-hen confirms that in June, 1984, Mion has entered high school which puts the twins at 15 in 1984, if one assumes that this current "gang" are at most 14, they were all born sometime in 2005. Thus:
    • Since the twins were born on July 10, 1968, Mion became a mum when roughly 37.
    • Since Keiichi was born on April 13, 1969, and Rena on July 28, 1969, he became a dad, and she became a mum, when roughly 36.
    • Since Satoko was born on June 24, 1971, she became a mum when roughly 34.
    • Rika finds this line of analysis uncouth and insulting.
