Tataridamashi-hen (祟騙し編, Curse Deceiving Chapter) is an anime and manga only arc that was introduced as the third chapter in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gō, the third season of the anime series. The name and the beginning is similar to the third chapter of the first season, Tatarigoroshi-hen, but it also bears some similarities to the answer arc, Minagoroshi-hen.
Plot[]
Just like in Tatarigoroshi-hen, Tsukigorootoshi-hen and Minagoroshi-hen, the arc revolves around Hōjō Satoko and the abuse she has to endure after the return of her violent uncle, Hōjō Teppei. It blends elements from both.
After an argument over who can make the better lunch which devolves into a challenge, Keiichi finds himself without his parents and forced to cook on his own. Before he succeeds in burning his house down, Satoko intervenes. She scolds him and banishes him to his living room while she prepares dinner while muttering about how pathetic he is. Rika explains to him that Satoko is actually happy since it reminds her of when her brother was around. When they enjoy dinner, Satoko almost calls Keiichi "Ni-Ni." She corrects herself, and when Rika explains the meaning of the nickname, Satoko comically rages that she never uses it. Later, Rika will compliment Keiichi for making Satoko happy.
Satoko takes him food shopping whilst scolding him on his knowledge all the way. She insists that the food they will make that night will taste better since they made it. To her blushing, Keiichi pats her on her head and corrects that it will taste better since she will make it. They enjoy the meal, and Satoko pulls a trap prank on him. After his initial frustration, he admits to her that as an only child, he has enjoyed having someone like a sibling. Satoko responds by agreeing to continue cooking for him since his parents are absent, only to hear the phone call that announces that they will return. She looks disappointed.
Keiichi is called by Rena for an emergency fight. Misinterpreting this, he arrives armed with a golf club only to find that it is a baseball game. Satoko promptly ends it by hitting a "walk-off" home run. During this, he meets Irie Kyōsuke for the first time, as well as Sonozaki Shion. Since the team he manages won, Irie must fulfill his promise to host a barbecue. During this, he explains to Keiichi Satoko's past regarding her parents and how she now lives with Rika. He also mentions the disappearance of his brother. He later asks Rena and Mion about Satoshi, and whether he became a victim of heard of Oyashiro-sama's curse. Rena becomes silent, and Mion creates a lie that she has the manga she promised to let him borrow to explain things alone with him. She then explains the history of her parents, including their support of the Dam Project. Keiichi understands but notes that Satoko is happy living with Rika. Mion responds that she is, "for now." This is followed by a scene of Teppei directing Satoko to enter her house, then closing the door behind them.
Keiichi experiences a flash-back of killing Teppei. He awakes as if from a bad dream. This make him late meeting Rena. He tries to explain his dream, but he cannot really remember. They run to meet Mion, and all three barely make it to school on time. However, they notice that both Satoko and Rika are absent. After their teacher arrives and class begins, a sad Rika arrives. She can only say that Satoko will be a bit late. During physical education, Keiichi encounters Ōishi Kuraudo who wants to know where Satoko is. When Keiichi proves insufficiently coöperative, he grabs him by the shoulder until Irie intervenes.
